Happy Monday!

After today, there is only one more weekend to go before Bluesfest kicks off. Isn't that amazing? You are only 10 short days away away from having the time of your life right here in the beautiful Byron shire.

And yes, it's been a very turbulent few days weather wise and we hope that you are okay, after Cyclone Debbie caused some heavy flooding on the coast! Our hearts reach out to all of you who have been affected.

As for Bluesfest? It will all go ahead as always, since we have put a lot of weather proofing in place over the years, so our Festival will go as planned, and you - our much valued festival friend - will enjoy a safe and fantastic time. We also did not get the level of rainfall that other near-by areas experienced. If you are camping, please know that our campgrounds have not been damaged.

Check out our freshly updated 2017 Festival map right here!

Bluesfest is now over 93% sold out and tickets are selling super fast, as we are counting down the days to the Festival.

To get you in the mood for the week, we thought we would highlight some of the fantastic RnB, Soul and Hip Hop artists we have coming this year. They are some of the world’s best and we can’t wait to be boogying alongside you over Easter.

A lot of our artists are on their way to us as we speak and this has got to be the most exciting time of the year (apart from Bluesfest of course).

And...last not least, don't miss our Festival Director Peter Noble sharing his excitement about what is coming up next week - Our 28th Bluesfest! Hip Hip Hooray!

NAS -11pm Thursday 13 April

A true icon in the hip hop world, we are beyond excited to be bringing one of the most innovative and talented rappers the world has ever seen to Australia for ONE EXCLUSIVE PERFORMANCE!

Those of you who were out clubbing in the 90s and early 2000s will do doubt recognise the classics If I Ruled The World, N.Y State of Mind and The World Is Yours. Those of you who were born a little bit closer to those days might know him from his recent contribution to the smash hit musical Hamilton via the Hamilton Mix Tape where he has a verse on Wrote My Way Out.

Mary J. Blige – 10pm Friday 14 April

The QUEEN of RnB herself, Mary J. Blige is heading to Bluesfest on Friday night and we are beside ourselves with anticipation. The iconic Grammy Award winner, singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist is a defining voice of contemporary music. She has amassed an impressive eight multi-platinum albums, nine Grammy Awards, 32 Grammy nominations and a 2012 Golden Globe nomination. She has sold over 50 million albums worldwide and is responsible for a plethora of hit singles including; ‘Be Without You’, ‘No More Drama’ ‘Not Gon’ Cry’, ‘Love Is All We Need’, ‘Seven Days’, ‘All That I Can Say’, ‘Family Affair’ and ‘Just Fine’ – her performance is certain to be wall to wall hits.

Gallant – 9.30pm Thursday + 5.30pm Friday

Named by Billboard as the #1 performance of Coachella in 2016, Gallant has experienced a meteoric rise over the past 12 months, finding his way onto the stages of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and having his single ‘Weight in Gold’ handpicked by the esteemed Zane Lowe as his inaugural ‘World’s First’.  Recognising his generational talent as, “the voice that will redefine R&B” according to NME, he has received sweeping critical acclaim for his first album ology, an innovative take on the alternative and urban music genres.

Don’t miss seeing an artist who is “the voice that will redefine R&B” according to NME, we know his shows are spine tingling-ly terrific – we can’t wait to see him for ourselves! Hope you are there with us.

Corinne Bailey Rae – 7.30pm Thursday + Saturday 6pm

Catapulted into stardom with her hit Put Your Records On, Bailey Rae's music spans electronic, soul and experimental genres – and it will definitely get you up and dancing. Her highly anticipated third studio album The Heart Speaks In Whispers debuted at number three on Billboard's R&B chart. Featuring ‘Been To The Moon’, ‘The Skies Will Break’ and ‘Green Aphrodisiac’, NPR named it one of the 30 albums of the year so far. The album has gained worldwide acclaim, garnering four and five-star reviews. We are so happy she chose to make her Australian debut at this year’s festival; we’ve been waiting a long time!

Laura Mvula – Saturday 7.30pm + Sunday 7.30pm + Monday 5.30pm

A captivating performer, Laura Mvula is a classically trained vocalist and soul singer-songwriter - who has been compared to the likes of Nina Simone - caught the attention of her musical heroes Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and Prince whilst performing at the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury.

REMI – Sunday 6pm Sunday + 7.30pm Monday

Bluesfest is proud to welcome REMI to the festival stage for the first time in 2017. REMI and musical collaborator Sensible J are one of the fastest-rising Hip Hop acts in Australia and are quickly gaining the attention of international tastemakers. REMI’s first big success came from the hugely successful single Livin’, released in 2014. Their 2016 album Divas and Demons impressed critics, with Tone Deaf calling it “a landmark album for Australian Hip Hop” and Rolling Stone Australia awarding it four and a half stars saying “Demons purged, REMI can confidently survey what remains: a legit contender for Aussie album of the year.”

We still have a handful of Flash camps available – they will sell out:

Flash camp: Camp in style at Bluesfest this Easter at the exclusive camp situated within the festival grounds! Flash Camp is perfect for the festival goer who wants to be amongst it all and come home to a comfortable base to retreat to at the end of a big day.

Peter Noble, Bluesfest Director's shares his excitement:

This is the time of year when media interviewers ask me questions like :

  • What are your top Picks for Bluesfest 2017?
  • Why are you such a dickhead?
  • When are you going to retire and give someone else a go?

The list goes on and on!

People, all I can say is this: My life is music. I love it with a passion. And I live it daily.

I have put together the Bluesfest 2017 edition with all my heart, and soul, if indeed I have one. There has been no scrimping and saving....I have made every effort to present the best artist bill I can. And I'm very, very proud of it.

This festival has so many areas of music I love covered. Simply if you want a one genre festival, then Bluesfest may present challenges for you. However, if you are willing to go on a journey of discovery, I have booked so many incredible artists, you won't be disappointed. There are great Blues artists at our heart, including the KING - Buddy Guy. Legends, emerging artists, returning favourites. It's all there. I really think we have reached a new level with this edition.

In the end, it will be you who will decide. I continue to sit in the role of creative director of this wonderful event. I book the talent. I have been doing this now for a very long time. I want to thank you for coming on this journey with me. I'm not going to be doing this forever, and it means everything to me, that I present the most creative festival bills I can after such a long satisfying career.

Thank you for your support.

We are getting very close to sellouts on our three big days and nights. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And Thursday and Monday have sold very well too. I want to wish you an amazing Bluesfest.

Please come to the Boomerang festival happening within Bluesfest, and also, I want to remind you that many of the best performances happen in the afternoon.

So be sure to get enough sleep. Don't miss a thing. It's going to be incredible.

I cant wait to share it all with you!
