This week, amongst all the other news, we would like to share 8 discovery artists with you, who you simply can’t miss at Bluesfest 2016. Some of you may already know of these incredible musicians and appreciate their music, but for many of you these are new discoveries! Every artist at Bluesfest is handpicked with a lot of passion and it’s not all about the headliners, it’s also about the outstanding discovery artists, who are going to rock your boat! Bluesfest is not all about the music you already know, there are always new artists to discover and fall in love with! Here are just a few of our picks for this year!
1. RHIANNON GIDDENS – DEBUT BLUESFEST PERFORMANCE & AUSTRALIAN TOUR!
Some of you may know Rhiannon as the Grammy award winning lead singer of Carolina Chocolate Drops from North Carolina. Rhiannon has recently released an album, Tomorrow Is My Turn on her own which has seen her nominated for a 2016 Grammy for Best Folk Music Album.

2. LUKAS NELSON & PROMISE OF THE REAL – DEBUT BLUESFEST PERFORMANCE & AUSTRALIAN TOUR!
The band alongside Lukas's brother Micah Nelson, have recently recorded with Neil Young on his thirty-sixth studio album, The Monsanto Years (June 2015), and Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real continue to perform with Neil Young as his touring band.
They have also played with the likes of John Fogerty, Bob Weir, B.B. King, and Bob Dylan. Lukas first picked up the guitar at age 11 to honour a promise he made to his father, legendary Country musician Willie Nelson.

3. KALEO - DEBUT BLUESFEST PERFORMANCE!
Bluesfest festival Director Peter Noble discovered Kaleo on a trip to their home country Iceland and couldn’t wait to introduce the four-piece band to Bluesfest audiences.
They have produced five number one singles in Iceland, a Gold debut album and appeared on the largest stage in their home country where they played to 100,000 people.
They perform mesmerising Icelandic roots music at its very best.

4. LORD HURON – DEBUT BLUESFEST PERFORMANCE & AUSTRALIAN TOUR!
Originally a musical and visual solo project by Michigan native, band leader Ben Schneider, Lord Huron has evolved into a band of epic proportions.
Their most recent album Strange Trails (April 2015) debuted at #10 on Billboard’s Top Albums and received widespread critical acclaim. Described as indie folk, you can check out their dreamy sound by checking this clip out and read more about them here.

5. JANIVA MAGNESS – DEBUT BLUESFEST PERFORMANCE & AUSTRALIAN TOUR!
Janiva Magness is the real deal when it comes to Blues, she has had 25 Blues Music Award nominations and seven wins including winning the 2015 Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year for the fifth time!
She also won the coveted Blues Music Award for B.B. King Entertainer Of The Year (she is only the second woman to ever win this Award, Koko Taylor being the first).

6. SONGHOY BLUES – DEBUT BLUESFEST PERFORMANCE & AUSTRALIAN TOUR!
Songhoy Blues hail from Timbuktu in Mail, the band was formed in Bamako after they were forced to leave their homes during the civil conflict and armed jihadists took control of Northern Mali.
Their sound has been described as having elements of contemporary rock and hip-hop, but it's their Blues sound that has everyone talking, and at its very core is the bands deep attachment to the home-grown songs and dances of Mali.
They are the number one breakout African band of the last 12 months and Mojo Magazine recently named their album Music in Exile No. 7 in their Best 50 Albums of 2015.

Con Brio is a living, evolving testament to the power of soul, fronted by the phenomenal Ziek McCarter, whose stage presence has led him to be likened to a young Michael Jackson or James Brown!

8. ST. PAUL AND THE BROKEN BONES - DEBUT BLUESFEST PERFORMANCE & AUSTRALIAN TOUR!
Bluesfest welcomes Alabama soul sextet St. Paul & The Broken Bones for their first ever visit to Australia! They opened for The Rolling Stones in 2015, and Bluesfest Festival Director Peter Noble calls leading man Paul Janeway "The best white Soul singer since Van Morrison - so there". Bluesfest Touring News
With the first Bluesfest Touring artists touching down in a little over seven weeks, the final touches are being made to the 2016 Bluesfest Touring season!
So for those of you who cannot make it to the epic Easter extravaganza that is Bluesfest then make sure you check out the incredible array of Bluesfest sideshows happening over March and April.
Bluesfest Touring has just announced that breakthrough artist Elle King will be here in March for her debut Australian tour. The sassy musician who loves both banjos and hobos, was recently nominated for two 2016 Grammy Awards for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance for her hit ‘Ex’s & Oh’s’.
Elle King will be performing at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne on Tuesday 22nd March 2016 and the Metro Theatre in Sydney on Thursday 24th March 2016 for official Bluesfest sideshows. Read more here
Also included in today's announcement, Blues man “Blind Boy” Paxton will be joining the Grammy winning Tedeschi Trucks Band as the special guest on their national tour. Read more about the tour here
In other Bluesfest Touring news, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, who will be performing their debut tour this March, remain at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Folk Albums Chart for their self titled debut album. This is in addition to their No. 1 spot on the Official Jazz & Blues Albums Chart Top 30 last week.
