WHY GOOD FRIDAY IS ALREADY A CRACKER!

Friday is historically a popular choice for single day ticket purchasers, but our first artist announcement will be taking it to the next level!

The National

Let’s start with one of the most loved Rock bands in the world - The National, who will be performing exclusively at Bluesfest this Easter, yes that’s right – you will ONLY be able to see them at Bluesfest.

They have been nominated for a Grammy, topped the charts around the world with several releases, and have a serious following of fans who connect with their honest and distinctive music.

The National will only be performing at Bluesfest once and only on Good Friday- this really is your only chance to see them in Australia this Easter!

City and Colour

The debut Bluesfest performance for City and Colour (aka Dallas Green) is another reason why Friday tickets are going to sell like hotcakes! The Canadian has achieved platinum status in Canada, gold in Australia and has a swarm of Australian fans.

Since we announced City and Colour will be appearing at Bluesfest in 2016, the world-renowned singer, songwriter and performer, has announced he will be releasing a new album If I Should Go Before You, October 9, 2015 and if you can’t wait that long – check out the opening track ‘Woman’ from the upcoming album right here:

City and Colour will only be performing once at Bluesfest – so choose your day(s) wisely!

Rhiannon Giddens

One of the brightest rising stars in music today, Rhiannon Giddens is yet another reason why Friday single day tickets will be flying out the door. Since we announced Rhiannon for Bluesfest, her Australian fans have been going crazy with the news that the lead vocalist and founding member of the blues and country-oriented Carolina Chocolate Drops will be bringing her solo material to Bluesfest for the first time.

Rhiannon Giddens has written a new song, entitled 'Cry No More' in response to the tragic shooting of nine parishioners at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal church in Charleston, South Carolina, in June. You can watch the poignant song here:

Songhoy Blues

There is a lot of talk right now around Malian group Songhoy Blues. Damon Albarn and Brian Eno chose them for their Africa Express project AFRICA EXPRESS PRESENTS…MAISON DES JEUNES which led them to collaborate with Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and they've been touring recently with Bluesfest 2015 alumni, Alabama Shakes.

Songhoy Blues will be making their Bluesfest (and Australian) debut this Easter and judging by reviews from their recent performance at the Latitude Festival in England, they are sure to be one of the Bluesfest 2016 highlights; “In front of an instantly adoring audience, the group are in their element. Infectious bass licks and driving percussion meets echoing vocal chants and blazing guitar solos…” DIY MAGAZINE

AND this is just the beginning! There will be plenty more artists announced for Friday and all the five fantabulous days of Bluesfest over the coming weeks!
