A humbling Message from Charlie Musselwhite

It really is exhilarating to see that our artists are just as excited to come to Bluesfest as we are to welcome them and of course enjoy their performances.

Check this message out from the one and only Charlie Musselwhite. Thank you for leaving it for us Charlie. We can’t wait to have you back.

And… a Message from Peter Noble

It’s the business end of the season …. Bluesfest is only 8 weeks away.

As you read this I will be in Nashville for the Pollstar Magazine Music Convention & Awards.

Pollstar Magazine is the international music industry professional’s bible – a bit like Billboard is to the record industry.

Bluesfest is up for the International Festival of the Year Award for the second year in a row.

Last year the Glastonbury festival, which also is up for the award, was not in contention, as they had a gap year the previous year. Scotland’s T in The Park won.

This year the finalists are Glastonbury Festival, Roskilde Festival, Rock in Rio and other brilliant events from around the world– so although we ALWAYS hope to win, we are clearly up against the very best festivals in the world – and it is an honour to once again be a finalist, and wave the flag for Australia.

There also will be additional big screens in both the Mojo and Crossroads areas.

What a couple of weeks it has been.

Bluesfest came second to the Melbourne Cup at the Australian Tourism Awards category for Best Major Event – and I was honoured in receiving the Rolling Stone Award for my contribution to the music industry.

Our Festival site improvements this year include finishing our car parks by putting road base down the complete length of every one of them as a bad weather prevention exercise, to allow everyone to be able to leave the car parks as quickly as possible – this carries over to building a direct entry to our northern car parks from the freeway that runs beside our site – and we now expect there to be a much less time delay in exiting the car parks.

We are also programming shows to finish on our major stages at different times which should help alleviate everyone going to the car parks to leave at the same time. However, you can also stay around until 1am in the coffee and food stall area in the northern part of our site should you not wish to leave immediately after the performances finish around 11.30pm to midnight.

We WILL be providing fixed seating in the Mojo and Crossroads areas – with additional tents around the circus tents for those with portable seating with viewing of the performances. Portable seating will not be allowed in the two tents.

We realise this decision does not please everyone – however, the calls for something to be done in this area became deafening – and we will review the seating after this years event.

There also will be additional big screens in both the Mojo and Crossroads areas.

With our new (old favourite) stage – The Juke Joint – gives us a record 7 performance stages this year, means there will be more room under canvas than any previous Bluesfest.

Bluesfest – a festival that is simply about one thing – GREAT MUSIC.

I believe I have booked a truly great Bluesfest this year for our 25th Birthday – one that has the best contemporary talent available, alongside legends of the music business, and easily the bluesiest Bluesfest in over a decade.

I am proud of our event which has been described by Rolling Stone magazine this year as "One of the World’s Great Festivals", and in the music blog Music Feeds as " boasts what might be the most spectacular festival line-up in a decade".

To have The Dave Matthews Band, Gregg Allman, Erykah Badu, Jason Isbell, Buddy Guy, Iron & Wine, Aaron Neville, Jake Bugg, India.Arie, Steve Earle, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, John Butler, The Black Sorrows, The Backsliders, Seun Kuti and James Cotton ALL play on the one festival – shows the diversity of Bluesfest – a festival that is simply about one thing – GREAT MUSIC.

We are now approaching sell-out

We are now approaching sell-out, and although there are still quite a few tickets left – you certainly should plan ahead should you be coming on Friday, Saturday or Sunday night – as it is likely single day tickets will sell out before the festival begins.

We will always endeavour to keep season tickets available wherever possible, and will give regular updates from now on.

Our campgrounds and VIP areas are filling – and at this time Saturday night is sold out in the camping area but there are still camping tickets left for Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday night – we are now providing other campground options in the area. (NOTE: they will have transport available to the Bluesfest site)

We only have VIP tickets available on Thursday, Sunday and Monday – Friday and Saturday are sold out.

There is still plenty of room around Byron to stay in houses, or hotels in the area – so what are you waiting for – Please come join us on our 25th.

Our food stalls are varied and an experience in themselves.

The music is going to be great from noon to midnight – that is a guarantee.

We are an all ages family event – we are proud of that, although we recommend a parent takes the young ones home after dark.

Yet at the same time Bluesfest is one of the only events left with a full strength liquor license – because we believe you have a right to drink responsibly – BUT – we are not here to ply anyone with alcohol – and we take that responsibility very seriously.

Our food stalls are varied and an experience in themselves.

I love this festival – it is my life – come join me – for what I truly believe is going to be the best one yet.

So for everyone who has bought a ticket – get ready – I have not held back on presenting an epic 25th – you will not be disappointed.

And for those Bluesfesters who have not yet bought a ticket.

Truly – this is going to be an unmissable music experience

See you in 8 weeks’ time – I can’t wait.

Peter Noble
