Words from the Director

We love announcing more artists at Bluesfest! After 7 announcements for Bluesfest 2018, here is the last one and it’s a beauty.  It includes two international artists, one great Aussie Soul Blues Band, plus a whole bunch of Byron region artists who are showing the world we have a truly amazing music scene in the Northern Rivers. Artists like Hussy Hicks and Hayley Grace already tour internationally, and Miss Renee Simone and Little Georgia nationally, we are so proud of them... go locals.

The fun never stops, as we are already working on the very special 30th Anniversary Bluesfest for next year… let me tell you it’s going to be our biggest party ever!

The site is being built, the Buskers Competition has started and the buzz is palpable. Australia’s most highly awarded festival is about to roll into Byron Bay, I can’t wait.

con brioHayley Grace is one of Byron Bay’s most exciting musicians. Joining her onstage for her first Bluesfest appearance is her energetic seven piece band, The Bay Collective.

Hayley has spent the last 15 years touring regularly up and down the East Coast of Australia, playing at festivals such as Splendour in the Grass and also supporting both national and international artists such as UB40, Darren Middleton (Powderfinger) & Phil Emmanuel.  Her soulful vibe and enigmatic on stage presence, make for an incredibly dynamic and powerful live show.

mia dysonBluesfest is delighted to welcome Little Georgia back in 2018. Amongst a sea of rhythmic and raw guitar tones collaborators Ashleigh Mannix and Justin Carter deliver both beautiful harmonies and compelling lyrics which reveal the honesty in their own style of Folk/Rock music.

Little Georgia are no strangers to touring and have spent the last 3 years on the road performing between Australia and North America including sets at AmericanaFest, Woodford Folk Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, and Queenscliff Music Festival as well as a national tour support with American Grammy award winning artist Ryan Bingham.

shaun kirkMiss Renee Simone (MRS) will bring her luscious vocals to Bluesfest in 2018. MRS radiates the essence of her musical upbringing. Born of Jamaican parents in the UK, MRS was raised singing along to the family vinyl collection - vintage soul and jazz. Her teenage years were infused with the iconic beats of 90s RnB and the sultry tones UK electronica. After finding her tropical home in Byron Bay Australia, MRS brings all of the above with a twist of relaxation and sunshine.

Her songs are about what it means to be a woman and a mother. They are written based on a collection of interviews with women of all ages across the world and she sings the most common themes, like the drunken tricks of a manipulative man, the fire in the belly that motherhood brings, the sadness of our parent's generation who worked so hard for ‘the man’ they forgot to live, the art of letting a prospective lover know how to treat you and the stance that 'we get what we put up with.'
