Byron Bay Bluesfest

A huge week at Bluesfest HQ – one international nomination and two major award wins!

28 November 2017

For the third year in a row Bluesfest Byron Bay has won Best Major Festival & Event at the NSW Tourism Awards! The competition was particularly fierce in 2017 with Vivid Sydney, 2017 Tamworth Country Music Festival and The Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras all in contention for the title. It’s a true honour to win against such fantastic events.

On top of that, yesterday Pollstar (the international music industry bible) announced that Bluesfest 2017 was nominated for ‘International Music Festival of the Year’. This is the 6th year in a row Bluesfest has been nominated and the 8th time in total. Bluesfest 2017 has some incredible competition with Glastonbury (UK), Lollapalooza (Brazil) also nominated. The award will be announced on February 8 in LA – wish us luck.

We have also received a Keeping the Blues Alive Award from The Blues Foundation in Memphis Tennessee.

"Each year, our KBA Selection Committee does a wonderful job of pinpointing those individuals and organizations that are working behind the scenes to celebrate, promote, and bring greater awareness to the blues. Our 2018 Keeping the Blues Alive award recipients are all wonderful examples of blues flame keepers, each working in their own sphere of influence to move the genre forward while honouring its past.”

"Pinch me I’m dreaming, we just won Best Major Festival and Event at the NSW Tourism awards for the third year in a row, were nominated for International Music Festival of the Year at Pollstar and received a Keeping the Blues Alive award from the Blues Society! Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would happen. I would like to thank everyone associated with presenting the event for their incredible dedication and professionalism.”
