So, what is there to do in Byron Bay?

#1 HINTERLAND DRIVE

🌄 DISCOVER WATERFALLS, SCENIC DRIVES & ICONIC MARKET

Get out to the land behind Byron Bay and drive through the Hinterland. It’s a dazzling world of sensational scenery, among picturesque villages and towns. Stumble across artisan shops, cafes and the occasional markets.

#2 MARKETS

🍏 FRESH PRODUCE, BYRON BAY LOCAL THREADS & NICK NACKS

From the weekly Thursday Byron Bay Farmers Market (or Friday in Mullumbimby!) delivering the freshest locally grown and sustainable produce… to the monthly stalls along the foreshore of Byron Bay. The Hinterland also offers markets of The Channon and Bangalow – you will find clothes, accessories and well… just about anything and everything, including super good food! Check where the markets are going to be on while you are in town – and be sure to allow at least a couple of hours browsing time.

#3 BEACHES

🏖 LIFE’S A BEACH

… and this certainly rings true in Byron Bay, and the towns either side of it. Main Beach is the centre of attraction, but for a little more serenity consider the spectacular kilometres of beaches to the north: Sunrise, Belongil, Tyagarah – all the way to Brunswick Heads… or head south to Clarkes Beach, The Pass, Wategos or Tallows.

#4 SUNRISE • SUNSET

🌞 YOU CANNOT BEAT ‘EM!

Set the alarm and get down to the beach early – you won’t regret it! The sky’s amazing transformation with the arrival of the sun in Byron Bay is simply spectacular – there is no other word to describe it. Be sure to do the same for the full moon rising and Byron’s iconic sunset! 😍

#5 BREAKFAST WITH BYRONITES

🥐 YOU MAY NOT HAVE TIME TO TRY THEM ALL… BUT, DO YOUR BEST!

After you’ve watched the sunrise, then maybe had an early swim, surf or walk, head to the café society of The Bay… Roadhouse, The General Store, Top Shop, Bayleaf and the totally rejuvenating Folk (a little outside on your way out to the Industrial Estate). Your pick of healthy, not-so-healthy and ‘so-unbelievably-healthy’ that your body will burst. The choices of food and beverage at all these (and more) places is staggering – and the use of quality local produce makes it a culinary experience you can’t get anywhere else!

#6 LIGHTHOUSE WALK

🏃‍♀️ IT’S A TRADITION

… an almost a compulsory Byron thing to do! A moderate 4km trail from Clarkes Beach to one of the most iconic landmarks in the Shire – the Cape Byron Lighthouse. Gaze out to the endless horizon, see who can spot the first dolphin and the silhouette of Mt Warning in the distance.

#7 COCKTAILS

🍹 THEY’RE NOT DIFFICULT TO FIND IN TOWN…

We may be barefoot, but we are still civilized! Check out cocktail hangouts and occasional the Happy Hours from the top, corners and ends of all the main streets in town. You’ll be transported to what feels like should’ve been your 2020 European summer ☀

#8 BUSKERS

🪕 SOME NIGHTS THEY’RE ON EVERY CORNER! 🤩

At Bluesfest time, Byron is absolutely ‘choc-a-bloc’ with buskers, gathering from across the nation to compete in the finals of the Byron Bay Bluesfest Busking Competition, and win a coveted place on the Bluesfest stage. Just walk the streets of Byron day or night… and enjoy the amazing variety, and massively talented buskers that linger in alleyways and at intersections. Don’t forget to spend a coin or two and/or buy their CDs – they rely on your generosity to keep the music alive!

#9 INDUSTRIAL ESTATE SHOPPING

🛍 SHOP & SHOP & SHOP TILL YOU..

Whether you walk, cycle, ride and drive, don’t miss the Byron Arts and Industrial Estate. Op shops, surfboard shapers,
cafes, restaurants, small cottage industries & global merchandise… it’s all there in this maze of industrial units
*Recommended by Kim Churchill – see the full interview HERE 👈

#10 BRUNSWICK RIVER

🐟 BOATS, KAYAKS, SUPS, FISHING & MORE…

There’s something for everyone. For a chill time, hire a boat or a SUP (stand up paddleboard) and float along the pristine blue waters of the Brunswick River. At high tide, you can jump off the bridge… cheap thrills!

#11 DIVE • SNORKEL

🤿 YOU MIGHT BE LUCKY ENOUGH TO SWIM WITH DOLPHINS!

There are days you will never ever forget – and this is one experience that words cannot describe. Connect with the ocean and join the marine life under the waves in Byron Bay. It will take your breath away (so don’t hold it… ok ?!). And yes, there are those extra-special days when dolphins join in with you. Treasured memories forever!

#12 SURFING

🏄‍♀️ THE REASON YOU MAY NEVER WANT TO LEAVE BYRON BAY

The Pass is one of the world’s iconic surf breaks. If you’re up for a paddle, you can hire a surfboard close by and can find a break that suits your level. It’s a bucket list moment! For variety, try the breaks at Lennox Head, Sharpes or Angels – and all the way down to Ballina. Spoilt for choice!

#13 YOGA • MEDITATE • MASSAGE

🧘‍♂️ FIND YOUR BLISS!

For the chill-out Byronites, a daily dose of at least one of the above is mandatory. In Byron Bay every kind of yoga, meditation and massage available. Large classes, small classes, one-on-one personal classes and peaceful retreats where you can erase the humdrum of daily life, return to nature and connect to country. What better way to finish a marathon Bluesfest than to retreat into a retreat, slip into the natural world, switch off and find your ‘bliss’!
