The Bluesfest Busking for 2014 has been yet another huge success with all involved providing amazing feedback regarding every aspect of the event. The supporters of this comp were pleasantly surprised with the array of amazing talent that has courageously battled it out the week prior to the Bluesfest for the winning position. This competition provides for such fantastic opportunities for unsigned artists as they take a leap of faith with their musical prowess on the line.
The finals kicked off at the Beach Hotel on Good Friday with a Welcome to Country by Pete ‘Jangala’ before the three Grommet finalists hit the stage. First up was The Black Harrys who travelled all the way from Melbourne to be a part of the competition and their busking ability certainly shone through. Next up were Jack ‘n’ Pen a young local duo from Alstonville with Pen’s truly amazing voice she definitely silenced the audience. Finally, young local lads ‘Craig 3 Members’ certainly showed the audience what a harmony is. It’s amazing to see such talent coming from young aspiring musicians. The judge’s decision was an extremely difficult one but one that saw the young fellas Craig 3 Members deservingly take out the competition.
The open event soon took shape and Eddie Boyd & the Phatapillers certainly set the standard showing their true talents and being completely at one with their presence and the stage. They were then followed by an amazing mix of musicians including Two Lions, an amazing folk duo from Mullumbimby then came two young musicians that awed the crowd in the heats. Simon Wright Band then belted out some cool blues tunes making it a fun family affair. The crew from Free Like Me were performance number five showing their amazing spirits and skills on stage. Then finally a gorgeous solo performer by the name of Mark Lowndes graced the stage to finish off what was a spectacular day. But there can be only one winner and for 2014 and that was Eddie Boyd & the Phatapillers, check them out at https://www.facebook.com/eddieboydandthephatapillars?fref=ts .
