I do hope you like what we have delivered so far in our first two artist announcements.
I am the guy who is guilty of booking the talent at Bluesfest, the Festival Director – AKA the curator – however, I have more than a little help from the people in our Bluesfest office.
My team come to me with constant suggestions and BOY, they make me look good.
I am very proud of our first two announcements, as I believe they embody what Bluesfest is about – The Creative – The Contemporary – The Blues and The Roots – and those artists who have contributed so much to our culture.
To have the largest grossing artist in the US this century playing twice at Bluesfest, the Dave Matthews Band, is one of those ‘pinch me I’m dreaming moments’. To have others such as the mighty Michael Franti coming back, as well as Aaron Neville gracing our stage is such a buzz and the list just goes on and on.
However, even though our first two announcements would for most festivals be much more than what they would dream of delivering, for us - it is just the beginning.
I am very happy to reveal that next week, as well as over the following months, a series of announcements will occur which will place Bluesfest in the pantheon of Australian festivals – if it isn’t already.
The announcements will be themed – Contemporary, Blues & Roots, Legends – and tomorrow’s superstars – so if you don’t like a particular one – just wait – we will have something for you.
I do need to advise that Bluesfest tickets are selling incredibly well this year – in fact we are more than 60% sold out – and you really should not wait forever to buy your ticket if you intend to attend. Our biggest seller is our 5 day season ticket.
Thank you for your support – you have bought almost 50% of our tickets before we even made our first announcement – I am humbled – and won’t let you down in your trust for Bluesfest to deliver a great event on our 25th birthday.
We have almost completed the highway exit for southbound traffic where cars will be able to drive directly on to our site. It will make access a lot easier and faster.
We have had deep meetings about delays in traffic leaving the site last year.
We believe that we will lessen the time in leaving the site at the next festival, however if the best part of 20,000 people all decide to leave around the same time, at the end of the night, there WILL be delays.
So, why not stay a while longer and enjoy our site before we close at 1am nightly?
Chairs and seating:
We will be providing fixed seating in our main tents behind the mixing boards in the Mojo and Crossroads stages and all people with folding chairs will be asked to sit outside the tents. Cover will be provided as well as large screens. Unfortunately there is no way to please everybody with this and I do hope you will give us an opportunity to make this work for as many people as possible. Folding chairs will no longer be allowed in the Mojo and Crossroads tents.
So that’s it – we are a week out of our next announcement – it’s a beauty – come on this journey with us – it is very special!
